What Does 2x6mm Oval Hypoechoic Area With Hypoechoic Rim Possibly Within The Musculature Mean?
I noticed a cyst like area on the back on my newborn head at the skullbase. The pediatrician thinks it is nothing more.:He is now 7 mths. I convinced her to have an ultrasound it showed the following: 2 x6mm oval hypoehoic area with a hyperechoic rimm possibly within the musculature. This does not arise from the skin or the subcutaneous fat. Correlation with CT or MRI may be useful. Should I be concerned? She thinks no further testing should be done.
The area measuring 2 x 6 mm is very small now to confirm its pathology entirely by imaging. You should be alert about any increase in size and changes occurring within. A CT or MRI will surely tell us about the exact location of the cyst but the contents may not entirely be confirmed at this stage. It is important to know when you noticed the swelling and if your child feels and pain in the area (if he starts crying on touching the area). I think you can wait for a while and stay under supervision of your doctor.
