What Do You Suggest For The Pain In My Left Area Under My Ribcage After A C-section?

Hello My name is Maria and I have a two year old son. I started having this problem right after I had him. I had a hard labor and ended up with a C-section. I had pain in my left upper area under my ribcage. It was very painful when the dr. pushed down. She told me I had a hernia. After that this pain has been there but very mild. A few weeks ago I did some exercises for my abdomen and I got a really sharp pain in the same area and it was so painful that I could not breath or move for about a minute or so. Then this happened once again. Today I did 9 sit-ups and by the tenth one the pain happened again, but this time something protruded out and after I stretched and took a deep breath it went back to normal. It has been bothering me all day since this morning. Could you please provide any insight or advice on where to go next? What type of doctor should I see about this? I should also mention that about a year ago I had a CT-scan and ultrasound performed, however they didn't see anything abnormal. Thanks! -- Maria

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

If the doctor has pushed this area trying to help with childbirth, most probable reason is broken rib. It has healed partially and when you have started physical activity, you may hurt it once again.
That is why I suggest you to visit your regular doctor first. Chest X-ray and ribs X-ray should be done at first.
You may also suffer from rib nerves pain due to some inflammation or irritation of this area. If so, Diclophenac or other pain killer should help.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
