What Do You Suggest For Sleep Apnea With Nasal Cogestion?

hello doctor,
I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea. It took me about 4 months and a series of trips to different types of specialists to diagnose it. I was suffering from extreme nasal congestion and hence visited an ENT specialist recently, following which, I got my endoscopy done. The endoscopy revealed severe deviated septum as well as blockage in the throat area (soft palate collapse). Apparently, this is what is hindering normal sleep for me. The doctor suggested we go for a surgery to fix the septum in order to increase the airflow through the throat. But I have been facing this issue even before I experienced blockage in the nose. So I fear the problem lies in the throat itself. Also, I'd like to mention that using CPAP machine for a night during my sleep study helped me immensely. I had very good night sleep with no snoring episodes. Thereafter, I have gotten back to feeling drowsy and fatigued throughout the day. Sleep apnea has immensely deteriorated my productivity and consequently my quality of life. I am losing confidence and there have been other health issues as well. Please suggest me an appropriate approach.

Dear User,
Thanks for using health care magic.

From the available description it appears that you are having severe sleep apnoea.
There are multiple causes of sleep apnoea among them nasal congestion or loose oral tissue is second most common cause for obesity.
In my view surgery for fixing the loose soft palate is more urgent than the deviated nasal septum in case of apnoea. Your deviated septum is only secondary cause in you apnoea and that can be corrected letter.
Talk to your doctor about fixing the soft palate so that the complication of sleep apnoea can be minimized or prevented.

'Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help".
Thanks
