What Do You Suggest For My Heart Skipping Beats?

Hi thanks......Lately I have been exper my heart skipping beats while Im at rest. It also is for some reason making me burp at times. It s not slowing me down but the sensation in my chest is bothersome. I am 59 and two years ago have been on the tredmill ands passed with flying colors. I m not over wieght and am in good shape so I don t know why it s doing this now. It comes and goes but has been coming at more closer times than being stretched out. I do have slightly high blood press and am not taking anything for it. Thanks...Mike

Dear Mike,

Thanks for the query. In the vast majority of my patients that present with such complaint, a benign reason is responsible, that is premature atrial or ventricular beats, particularly ventricular beats, since the beat after the "skipped" one feels stronger; they usually are a nuisance that is beingn. That being said, to best document that this is the case a Holter monitor is recommended to be worn for 24 to 48 hours no ensure there are no cardiac arrhythmias.

Hope this helps, wish you the best,
