What Do The Ultrasound Results Show?

My left palatoglossalarch has been swollen for at least 5 weeks, at least that is when I noticed it. I have no pain but sometimes I have a lump sensation in my throat, a feeling of inflammation in the esophagus and occasionally have swallowing problems. I had a sonogram done about 5 months ago on my thyroid and neck due to 2 small lumps on my thyroid area and a small movable lump on the left side of my neck. I m not sure of these two concerns have any connection. The results of the sono where: 1. Mild thyromegaly without cyst or nodule. Acute or subacute is difficult to exclude by ultrasound and 2. Small reactive appearing lymph node in the mid anterior left neck. Not sure if I should be worried and continue investigating.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.

You have two altogether different problems.
- The swelling in the left palatoglossal arch may be a different problem like a mass or a cyst.
This can be diagnosed by: CT scan and FNAC and may need an active treatment or formal surgery.

-Another problem is the thyroid. The reports says:
1. Mild thyromegaly without cyst or nodule. Acute or subacute is difficult to exclude by ultrasound and 2. Small reactive appearing lymph node in the mid anterior left neck .
You need further investigation of FNAC of the thyroid as this type of swelling may be due to thyroiditis and the resultant lymph node. Reactive means not a cancer.

It is also needed to get Thyroid function tests, anti-thyroid antibody tire and another blood tests to decide the further treatment which will be necessarily a medical management depending upon the reports.
