I am trying to interpret my daughter's lab results for an ANA panel. We have a two month wait to see a rheumatologist - that's a long time to wonder! She tested positive for ANA and SSB, but the anti-dna test is unclear to me, and I know it varies from lab to lab. This is exactly as it appears on the paperwork:ANTI-DNA (DS) AB.......1 (0-4 IUs).Thanks for your help.
Hello and welcome to HCM, The Anti dsDNA is 1 IU and the normal range is between 0-4 IU. Thus, according to this report anti dsDNA is negative. Anti SS-B antibody can be possitive in various disorders like systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjogren's disease, systemic sclerosis, CREST syndrome, inflammatory myopathies and other connective tissue diseases. A clinical assessment is required to diagnose the condition.
You need to consult a physician for assessment of clinical features and interpretation of investigations.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
