Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a problem sense last spring my primary thinks its a certain thing but so far no one be able to say its that for real. I get purple spots on top of my feet, ankle area, and when it first start low back of my leg. It will come and then it will heal and the spot get lighter and then notice later down the road have more and now they mostly on the top of the foot instead of all the areas. Just wondering what you think that could be from or what that might be?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Purple colored spots on feet and ankles can be due to petechiae or purpura. Petechiae and purpura are purple to violet colored spots caused by small hemorrhages beneath the skin. These lesions can be due to disorders of platelets, clotting factors or blood vessels. Thus, investigations to determine the number and function of platelets, clotting factors and integrity of blood vessels are required. Platelet count, bleeding time, clotting time, PT, aPTT are the basic investigations required to determine the functioning of platelets and clotting factors. Abnormality in any of these parameters will determine the probable cause of symptoms of petechiae and purpura. I suggest you to consult your physician for clinical assessment, investigations, diagnosis and thus treatment.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
