What Do Numbness And Tingling Sensation On The Feet Indicate?

My husband has numbness and tingling of both feet and lower legs. He has had it for 20 plus years. Our cold winter weather in Buffalo makes it difficult for him to stay here. He stays in Florida during January, February and March every year. Now he is experiencing numbness and tingling of both hands. It is affecting some of his functioning, including his handwriting. He also has poor balance when walking. He was diagnosed with diabetes type 2 three years ago. His hands are also tremorous. He is 68 years old.

General Surgeon 's  Response
In Diabetes Mellitus, the nerves to the lower limbs and sometimes to the upper limbs are affected leading to symptoms like tingling, numbness, pain, muscle cramps, pricking sensation. This is called Diabetic Nuropathy. This can cause difficulty in walking. He should undergo a 'Nerve Conduction Velocity' test which will diagnose Nuropathy and the severity of the problem. Medications can then be taken according to the degree of diabetic neuropathy, and he would get good relief of symptoms. It is best he consults a Podiatric surgeon or a Neurologist for getting the investigation and treatment.
