What Do Muscle Cramps In The Left Leg Indicate?

I experienced this once before a severe Charlie horse that started in my toes and shot up my left leg almost reaching the groin area lasting for several minutes, I started to sweat then had a cold clammy feel and thought I was going to black out so crouched down on the floor in case I did, last year my wife got scared and called ems. They brought me in to emergency and run tests and couldn't come up for a reason. It just happened again, still feel the area in leg where Charlie was excruating pain, thought maybe blot clot? I'm approaching 70 in good health exercise daily and not over weight

Thanks for contacting with your health concern.

1. Although you have experienced charley horse [muscle cramp] earlier but couldn't found anything conclusive [dueing ER visit], thus mine symptomwise approach in such case will be:

- rule out diabetes, calcium/salt deficiency and treat accordingly.

PS. most cramps in legs are due to calcium deficiency, in chronic or resistant cases, give Vit. E- long-term therapy.

. Cramps should be differentiated for claudication which is exercise related

2. If getting time and again make sure to exclude causes like vigorous exercise, trauma to the muscle, keeping the leg in an awkward position for too long.

PS. make sure to take dark, leafy green vegetables, nuts, and seeds, fortified tofu, yogurt with banana [good combination of calcium, potassium, calcium] to help with muscle cramps.

3. As symptoms are occurring in one leg only, thus DVT [deep vein thrombosis] could be the possibility, consult a vascular surgeon for doppler study [since the clot could break free and travel up to the lungs to cause fatal embolism]
