What Do Calcification In The Right Breasts Indicate?

I have micro calcifications in my right breast. have a biopsy scheduled next week.. how often do these calcifications turn into cancer? I m 45 with a family history of breast cancer. I get regular mammos ( every 6 months) and the last 3 times added ultrasound imaging as well. should I be worried or is this a pretty routine way to be on safe side ?

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.

Calcifications are common and in most case it isnt sign of anything serious so you should not be concerned. These are usually seen in fibroids or as chronic breast changes such as atrophy. However, considering your family histroy, it would be good to do ultrasound guided biopsy to ease your mind. I dont think that cancer could develop within 6 months and this would be rarity. Calcifications are not worrying sign if you had regular check ups...
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
