What Do ALT 348 And ALP 21 Mean In Liver Function Test?
i am a 40yr old woman with multiple gall stones upto 11mm in diameter i am due to go into hospital to have an upper GI endoscopy and received a letter with my test results without an explanation of there meaning so the is is what i have on my letter CBD of 3.6, liver function test showed an ALT of 348,ALP of 212 and Bilirubin of 8 could you explain what this means as i am confused

Report suggests raised ALT and bilirubin level.It indicates liver injury.
Increase in ALT and bilirubin level may be due to many reasons like hepatitis,alcohol intake, altered lipid profile, medicines,auto immune causes etc.
You need few other investigations like routine hemogram,random blood sugar,viral markers and ultrasound of abdomen.
In such condition,I suggest my patients to take tablet Ursodeoxycholic acid 300 mg twice daily for three months. It helps in regeneration of liver cells.
You should avoid fatty and fried food.He should also increase his physical activity.Take lot of fibres in diet.
Treatment of choice of gall baldder calculus is surgical removal of gall bladder(cholecystectomy).
3.6 mm CBD size is normal.
Get well soon.
