South Indian food involves a lot of starchy and fried food items which are all diabetogenic and also cause obesity. Here are some of the things that you can do:
1. Reduce the amount of rice intake. Switch to wheat chapathis instead of rice.
2. Take salads(cut vegetables and fruits) with or without curd(yogurt) before meals so that you feel fuller before you eat your main meal.
3. Drink natural fruit juices without adding any sugar.
4. Switch from tea with milk and sugar to green tea.
5. Do regular aerobic exercise minimum 30 minutes to one hour everyday.
6. Avoid cabbage and cauliflower since you have a thyroid problem.

Take care and have a nice day.
