What Could Tenderness And Pain In Neck And Jaw Be Indicative Of?

I am 67 y/o with sudden onset of neck/below jaw line swelling. It is very painful to swallow food and tender to press on the area. It is not a firm tumor type, and not a great deal of edema, and pain on chewing/swallowing is my biggest complaint. thanks
