My father in law who is 76 just had a ptca this morning. He is currently vomiting blood and has a fever. His cardiac output was at 25% prior to the procedure. He has a pacemaker which was implanted about 7 years ago post a quadruple bypass. Can he be septic this soon after the surgery or is there something else going on?
he underwent ptca and has blood vomit on the same day which is probably result of antiplatelets given prior and after the procedure.he should be managed with rabeprazole ,fever may not be related to heart condition and may UTI or some other infection.hemetemesis will be controlled after reducing antiplatelets...
Usually patients who had PTCA( Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty) are on antiplatelet medications which can cause clotting problems and cause patients to bleed.Thats probably the cause of it, i dont think its sepsis .His blood is too thin.
