What Could Mucus In Stool In Children Suggest?

Hi,
My 2 yr old son is having mucus seen in his stool. 15 days back he was having cough, cold and fever and then he had medicine for it after that he had his motion....and now cough cold is gone and even there is no motion...but he is having mucus in his stool...can u plz answer me...

Hi,
There are many causes of excess mucous generation in children but most common cause is part of normal physiology. You need to be alert if the child is having any other symptoms like fever ,blood in motion,decreased food intake etc.In your case it might be normal unless the stool is smelling very bad which indicates some undigested food and some infection. See for a few days about any change in the nature of the stool and then reach out to a paediatrician if the problem persists.
