What Could It Be If Child Is Having Hard Red Bump On Sternum?

My 6 year old daughter has a hard red bump on her sternum. The bump showed up about a week and a half ago. Now, it is sore and hot with a red ring around it. I have put antibacterial ointment on it, peroxide, and even Noni juice. I'm thinking I might need to take her to the doctor soon.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hello,
A painful, hard and red swelling is likely to be due to bacterial infection. Since you say this swelling is over the sternum, underlying bony involvement needs to be excluded. An ointment may not be sufficient and oral antibiotics may be necessary. Kindly consult your doctor as a thorough clinical examination is paramount before treatment.
