What Could Heaviness In Chest While Sleeping Indicate?

Hi! I am 32 year old healthy man with no history of any major disease. Recently from about 2 weeks, when I sleep, my chest seems to get very heavy as someone has placed a very heavy weight over it. The pain lasts as long as I am laying. As soon as I get up, it goes away and i feel normal again. what can be the reason?

Hi Dear ,

As per your query you have heaviness in chest while sleeping . Well there can be many reason for symptoms you mention in query , but in your case the symptoms are probably occurring due to two reasons :-

- First it can occur due to silent reflux disease also known as Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) . In which there are no prominent symptoms like heart burn as in case of GERD .

- Secondly it can occur due to heart related problem like angina or heart attack like symptoms .

I would suggest you to consult cardiologist without any delay . Doctor may order ECG , TMT , complete blood profile and chest X-ray to check for enlargement of heart . Doctor may prescribe sedatives , beta blockers , diuretics , calcium channel blockers and blood thinners . Doctor may also order angiography and may refer you to gastroenterologist if he/she find problem to be related with acid reflux .
