What Could Hearing Voices Indicate In A Hypertensive Patient Indicate?

My brother just confided in me that on four occasions in the past three years he has very very briefly "heard voices" He is mentally sound e.g. No schizophrenia, Bi -polar. he cannot make out what the voice is saying. Two times it was a woman's voice and the other a male voice. He has had no headaches or possible symptoms of a brain tumor. His health is excellent and only takes an anti-hypertensive. He had a partial knee replacement several years ago and had a general anesthetic. I know a general anesthetic is not good for the aging brain---my brother is 83 and stlll works (he is an attorney). Is this a possibility? I wonder if you could please help me?

In my opinion, you should not worry. The voices are heard only for brief duration, they occur very infrequently (only four times in three years), they are indistinct and most importantly your brother has insight that they are not real. This doesn't indicate any serious pathology.
It is not likely to be related to hypertension or antihypertensive medication.
Such phenomena may occur when one is tired & exhausted, when one is about to fall asleep or about to wake up or when surroundings are unfamiliar or not clear or when one is anxious.
In short, you should not worry.
I hope this answers your question.
