What Could Explain Impaired Vision After Having Back Massaged?

Hi, my 33 year old generally healthy (but BMI 29) husband just had a back (not neck) massage and afterwards noticed significantly impaired vision in his left eye. This occurred around 90 minutes ago and it has improved a little but certainly not completely.

He is currently waiting in the emergency department but it seems like he has been triaged quite low, as he was told a 2 hour wait or more.

I know it's unlikely he would be having a stroke. Is it just a coincidence that he had a massage? There was no cervical neck manipulation at all.

Thanks

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello
It seems from the history that your husband is having sudden onset of blurring of vision following back massage. Back massage does not have any relation with the sudden onset of blurring of vision.
Sudden onset of blurring of vision which is painless is usually caused by retinal problems like retinal detachment, retinal artery or vein occlusion... or it can be a transient ischemic attack.
Hence he requires evaluation by a ophthalmologist at the earliest and treatment accordingly.

Thank you
