What Could Cause Toenail Growth Under Toe Nail?

On my large toe and one small toe, i repeatedly have a toenail growing underneath a toe nail. When the bottom nail grows out the top one eventually falls off. Why is this? It started in2008 after i got treated for cancer of the head. They gave me cisplatin and 5FU along with radiation.

Hi there. I read your problem with interest & take it to be a chronic recurrent issue since 2008. Might i suggest in addition to all you have done to take a clipping of the said 'nail under the nail' & get it tested both routinely for fungal elements & a fungal culture (usually takes 3+ weeks to get a good report). This can be done at a competent laboratory/dermatologist nearest you. It will give you a clearer picture of the situation & rule out an eminently treatable cause. Cheers!
