What Could Cause Sore Throat?

i have had a sore throat left tonsil for a week now, and feels like my lymph node on left side of neck or maybe just my tonsil is swollen when i touch from the outside. its a mild discomfort, not a serious pain, notice sensitivity when i drink liquids etc. also feels like i could have post nasal drip on the leftside but i am not sure i sometimes feel mucus passing down that side....what could it be?

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of sore throat which seems to be a bacterial infection. In sore throat tonsils in neck get swollen and cause tonsillitis. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination and to rule out other condition like acid reflux and lichen planus .Doctor may order blood test and throat swab test to confirm diagnosis. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics (amoxicillin, cephalexin or penicillin) course for around 10 days and vitamin C supplement for quick recovery. Doctor may also prescribe antacid and H2 blocker in case of acidic reflux disease. For now what you can do is gargling and rinsing with warm saline water ,drink plenty of fluids to keep your self hydrate and take ibuprofen(if not allergic ) or acetaminophen for pain and inflammation. Avoid smoking.
