and it seems that difficulty processing polyphenols can cause dark circles
around the eyes, red cheeks, and hyperactivity. There are other symptoms that occur in more extreme cases such as seizures. Artificial coloring and flavors might be a trigger. Polyphenols are also present in fruits although some more than others. Apples can be a problem. Pears are better, etc. Maybe see if they improve without artificial colors and flavors or apples?
