What Could Cause Delay In Periods Even After Taking Ipill?

hi my name is John... I have a question relating pregnancy.Last time my girlfriend's periods started from 19 dec 2010. Afer her periods had just finised, we had sex using condom but somehow we thought that some drops might have entered her as there was little sperm outside condom also. We decided to take I-Pill. Then afer 4-5 days of having I-Pill she had little bleeding for about 1-2 days. Then again after a week or so we had sex using condom and same thing happened....sperm was outside. This time also she had I-Pill but now after that she has not had that little bleeding and also her periods havent come yet(were supposed to come on16-19 Jan).Is there any chance of her being pregnant despite having I-Pill twice in a month? Why didnt she have bleeding next time when she had I-Pill? Plz help us out.....thnx

Hello dear
Understand your concern.
Two reason for your problem.
Either pregnancy or side effects of pill.
You can confirm the pregnancy , 10 days after missed period or by USG or blood HCG level.

I pill, is a single tablet containing 1.5 mg of synthetic progestin, Levonorgestrel.

For this emergency contraception to be effective, it is necessary to take one 1.5 mg pill of Levonorgestrel on a single day and within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse.
Best results are seen when Unwanted 72 is taken quickly, within 72 hours of an event, as it takes 72 hours after fertilization for a woman’s body to produce a pregnancy.

If taken within 24 hours – up to 95% effective
If a woman should vomit after taking Unwanted 72, it is recommended to repeat the one time dose for effectiveness in pregnancy prevention.

Other causes of late period are:
Excessive stress, Change in life style, Late ovulation, Excessive weight gain /loss, Drugs: Birth control pills, thyroid medication, Excessive tea and caffeine, Thyroid problem, Hormonal imbalance.

If period will not come:
Consult the gynecologist and do investigations like hormone profile, usg , ovarian follicle study, endometrial biopsy.

Hope this may help you
Best regards
Dr. Sagar
