What Could Cause Delay In Period?

Dear Doctor,I am a mother of a six year old son. I had normal periods even after my first pregnancy. I took Primolut N pills ( 2 tablets per day )for 6 days for postponding my menstrual periods due to pilgrimage reasons. I got my period soon after i stopped Primolut N . The period came on Feb 5th 2015, since hte last period, I havent got my period this month which is due already and is about 4 days late. I have completed 35 days of the since the last menstrual cycle. Im confused if I have conceived (pregnant) or not. I havent tested for HCG yet. I wonder if the delay is due to the taking of Primolut N pills. (last month).. Kindly help to clarify my doubt. Thanks.

Hallow Dear,

The period after the postponement of menses by Progesterone may get delayed. 4 days delay in menses is not to be worried about. Of course your concern about the possibility of pregnancy is quite valid and needs to be sorted out.

Just after 4 days after missing period may be too early for performing pregnancy test on urine. It may report false negative. You may opt one of the following:

1. Wait for 4 more days and then perform pregnancy test on overnight early morning first urine sample.

2. Opt for Beta hCG test. Even at this stage, it can reliably detect the pregnancy.

If you are not pregnant, you may safely wait for the menses to appear naturally. If you are too eager to have menses, you may take Primolun N pills for 5 days and then within 4-7 days you will get menses.

I hope this clarifies your doubts.
