What Could Cause Chest Burn Associated With Increased Asthmatic Spasm?

Hello, I am having bronchial asthma for last 15 years. I am now 40 years old. Recently ( last two months) i have developed symptoms like chest burn or heart burn associated with increased asthmatic spasm. As per my observation , i feel better when i drink more cool water. Is this related to acid reflux or gastroesophageal reflux disease...?

Hello.

Thank you for asking at HCM.

I went through your history and would like to make following suggestions to you:

1. First of all, yes, from your complaints, I would first think of acid reflux/GERD.

2. I usually suggest my such patients regular antacid like pantoprazole before meals for at least 6-8 weeks.

3. I also suggest them to avoid hot/spicy foods, caffeinated beverages, alcohol, smoking.

4. I suggest my GERD patients to take a brief relaxing walk after evening meals.

5. GERD is a very important consideration in patients with asthma as many drugs used in treatment of asthma can worsen GERD - salbutamol, theophylline, corticosteroids, etc.

Hope above suggestions will be helpful to you.

Should you have any further query, please feel free to ask at HCM.

Wish you the best of the health.

Thank you & Regards.
