What Could Cause Buzzing In The Left Ear?

I have had buzzing in my left hear for the last six months sometimes it seems like it causes an issue with my balance. I get very light headed and lose my balance at times. Not very often does this happen. Usually I will get a lightheaded spell and it will last about 1 or 2 minutes and then go away. Yesterday I was at work and it started at about 3:30pm and didn't go away, I actually ended up going home. It felt like it finally eased up at around 7pm. When I got up in the morning to get ready to go to work this morning it was the same feeling light headedness and the buzzing is very loud. It seemed like the tone of it changed for a bit but soon after went to buzzing again. The tone change was more of a ringing.
