What Could Be The Reason For Swollen Belly Button?

My daughter is almost 15 and has a sore, swollen belly button. Her belly button has a little ball inside the belly button hole, which has always been like that but it is all swollen and sore for her. I have cleaned it with hydrogen peroxide and isn t helping. What could this be?

Hi.
I have read your query carefully & got your point of concern.
Swelling of belly button can be due to distension of abdomen( Gases), weakness of abdominal muscles( severe cough), or umbilical hernia.
The symptoms you describe suggest infection of the umbilicus following lac of cleaning,itching.
just cleaning will not suffice, it should be followed by antibiotic ointment application.
If there is much of swelling, oral antibiotics and anti inflammatory pills . The dose & type of medicines to be decided by your doctor after examination.
