Hi, thanks for asking from HCM.
I can understand your concern. The Chiari type I malformation usually presents
: age around 20-30 years
: pain in back of neck, head which may radiate to shoulders.
:
tingling sensation in all extremities.
: neck flexion causes aggravation of symptoms
: neurological deficit like weakness in limbs,
muscle atrophy in hands can occur if there is "syrinx". It is dilation of
Central canal of spinal cord with gradual damage of spinal cord.
Now coming to your daughter symptoms, she is having chronic gastric ulcer symptoms like pain abdomen, vomiting etc and another set of symptoms like
neck pain, weakness of limbs, fatigue. The second set of symptoms could be due to "Chiari malformation". It can be confirmed by neurological examination, MRI of spine to know about syrinx and "Phase contrast" MRI to know about degree of compression.
Treatment of Chiari can be given after confirming it as the cause of symptoms. If it is the cause, decompression of for amen magnum should give her relief, if it is done within 1 year of symptoms.
Hope it will help her. Continue her
chronic gastritis and ulcer medication.
Thanks. Take care
