What Could Be The Reason For Having Pain In Left Calf And Lower Back?

I ve been having pain in my left calf for a few days. Now, I ve got additional pain in my lower back on my right side. It s a real sharp pain that comes out of nowhere, then subsides. It ll come back repeating the same thing, then go away. I m concerned I may have some clotting.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

There are numerous causes for calf muscle pain, the commonest being a calf cramp which is usually due to dehydration, calcium/vit D deficiency, muscle fatigue, venous thrombosis (blood clot) or neurological causes like spinal canal stenosis.

So, a detailed clinical examination followed by appropriate investigations are necessary to establish the cause of your symptoms.

Deep vein thrombosis (blood clot) in your case in unlikely as it will not be associated with lower back pain. A doppler study of the affected leg will exclude the presence of a clot.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
