What Could Be The Reason For Having Dizziness And Heart Burn?

My 16 year old daughter has had heartburn on and off for nearly 12 months. She has been on ranitidine sandoz tablets and it went away for a few months and the last week or so it's back a lot worse than before and the tablets don't seem to be helping and last night she was quite dizzy. Last Feb she had a bad case of gastro and the Dr thought she had a inflamed oesopagus. Shouldn't that have healed by now? She can't sleep due to the pain.
