What Could Be The Reason For Bloody Urine Without Any Pain With History Of Prostate Exam Showing Negative For Cancer?

61 year old male, last prostate exam about 12-18 months ago. Biopsy was negative for cancer although blood test was about 22. I had bloody urine three times in a row last Saturday. The last two were lighter in color than the previous time. During the last urination there were two blood clots that past with no pain whatsoever. There was no pain or discomfort during any of the 3 urinations. I have had no tint of blood since that time. Suggestions or need for unnecessary concern. I have never had anything like this in the past.

Good Day and thank you for being with Healthcare Magic!

Blood in the urine is always a red flag and can come from any of the organs in the urinary tract. Prostate can bleed even in the absence of prostate cancer (BPH), bladder cancer should also be ruled out and kidney malignancies also. A CT UROGRAM is usually requested to visualize the whole urinary tract and to check for lesions. Infection may also cause blood in the urine but other dreaded conditions should be ruled out.

You need to go back to your Urologist to discuss this so he may have to do the necessary tests. Prostate biopsy may also cause blood in the urine even as long as two weeks after Transrectal biopsy.
