What Could Be The Reason For A Lump With An Ingrown Hair On The Armpit?
I suffered from severe bronchitis for about a month back in September and after I finally recovered, I noticed a small pea sized lump deep in my left armpit. It's not an ingrown hair, it doesn't really hurt when palpated & it has grown within the past 2 weeks. I have changed deodorants, razors, and laundry soap so it's not irritation. SHould I be concerned?
Hi, Thanks for writing to us. This pea sized lump could be a sebaceous cyst, lipoma, lymph node or a boil. Sebaceous cyst is a cystic swelling containing a cheesy white material( sebum and skin cells) while lipoma is a swelling due to accumulation of fat cells. A boil or furuncle is a tender red swelling occuring due to bacterial infection of hair follicle. As such lipoma or sebaceous cyst are benign and can be left as such. However if becomes painful can be excised. boils require course of oral and topical antibiotics A diagnosis can only be made after the lump/ swelling has been clinically examined. For the same, meet a doctor nearby. Regards
