What Could Be The Life Span Of A Person With Last Stage Of COPD?

what is the average life span of someone once they are in the end stage COPD? Can they live for several years? Mom s Dr said her lungs have no reserves left and that she can go from being what is her OK to being on a vent the next day. My heart sinks every time the phone rings.

HELLO,
i can understand your concern.
feel very sorry to know about your mother.
an xray or ct scan of the chest is required to tell the exact condition of your mother.
copd is a progressive disease which means it would definitely worsen with time.
even after the medications she has been taking if she is breathless or has severe cough, tightness of chest even at rest this is not much of good news.
sadly there are no drugs which can reverse the damage done already.
life span would be very difficult to say as the condition worsens rather drastically and if accompanied with other chronic diseases like hypertension, diabetes the deterioration is much faster.
hope i have answered your queries.
wish her a speedy recovery and a longer life.
thanks for choosing HCM
