Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just took a bath and when I was standing up to get out, suddenly a large quantity of blood came out of my rectum and turned the bathwater red. I have been diagnosed with crohn's disease, and I have had some rectal bleeding in the past, but only on the toilet paper, never gushing unexpectedly like this... Just wondering if this is related or if this is something new.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history of gushing blood that came out of rectum while standing up from bath, known case of Crohn's, had blood on toilet paper in past but never the gushing. Gushing of the blood out of the rectum is usually a sign of hemorrhoids, one of which can open up this way, without warning and without pain. I would advise you the following in such a situation. Get the per-rectal digital examination, ano-proctoscopy to start with to establish the diagnosis, if there is much of bleeding to get this tied or banded. Plan a colonoscopy too so that any further diagnosis is confirmed and acted upon to correct this. Take laxatives at bedtime. Relax, no anxiety or stress.
