What Could Be Cause For Sharp Pain In Ear After Blowing Nose?

Hi, I recently have had a bad sinus infection and while using a netti pot I blew my nose too hard and plugged one side of my nose. My right ear made a weird water-like grinding sound and then it's been shooting pain not only through the ear that was affected in the first place but my let one now as well if I lay down to sleep... This just happened tonight. Is there any way it will go away by tomorrow?

Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

You see what you need to know is that the nasal cavity and the ear vavity are connected. what probably happened was that when you were blowing your nose, the air has entered the ear tubes forcibly and thereby caused you the problem you are now facing.

as long as this remains you may have some pain in the ear.
i would however like you to visit a doctor there so as to check for any trauma to the tympanic membrane

I hope this helps you. Best of luck.

I have given you the answer to the maximum considering the information provided.
