Hello!
Thank you for asknig on HCM!
I understand your concern, and would like to explain that when dealing with mitral valve leaking the two most important clues to investigate are whole mitral valve apparatus morphology and the severity of
mitral regurgitation.
If only a trivial (minimal to mild) mitral regurgitation is present and no abnormal mitral valve morphology is identified (by cardiac
ultrasound), then there is nothing to worry about. in such a case, only a periodic medical follow up by echo is sufficient.
In such case your recent complains (racing heart, dizzy, nausea, etc) are caused by a transitory hyperkinetic state associated with
high blood pressure. You just need to keep monitoring your blood pressure frequently and perform some routine blood tests (
complete blood count,
thyroid hormone levels, liver and renal function tests, blood electrolyte levels, fasting blood
glucose, etc) and discuss with your doctor about the results.
Otherwise, if mitral valve insufficiency is more than mild (by echo), then a more close medical follow up and possibly an ongoing therapy would be advicalbe (taking into account also your possible clinical symptomatology).
If
belching is persistently present then a dietary modification coupled with any antiflatulent and antisecretor gastric drugs would be of help. You need to discuss with your GP about this issue.
So, to conclude I would recommend to keep being close with your doctor and clarify all the above mentioned issues.
Hope to have been helpful! Greetings! Dr. Iliri
