What Causes Yellow Discharge From Breast?

I am a 38 year old male who had nipple discharge from my left breast following a shower. The discharge was yellowish green followed by blood. It was similar to what happens when you pop a pimple but it came out of the nipple. I haven t felt any lumps in the breast. I m wondering if this could be a blockage that was released by the hot water? So far it has only happened one time. I have made an appointment with my GP but its a week and half away. Thanks.

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,
Yellowish-green discharge from nipple followed by blood discharge is suggestive of bacterial infection of the ducts of the breast.
A microscopic and microbiological examination of the breast discharge is required to know the cause of infection.
Prescription of antibiotics is required to control the infection in the ducts of breast.
I suggest you to consult a surgeon for clinical assessment, investigations and thus treatment.
At the same time bilateral breasts and armpits have also to be examined to look for any lump.

Thank and take care
