What Causes Weird Taste In Mouth And Difficulty Swallowing?

Had oral thrush from using a inhaled corticosteroid. Used nystatin to treat it twice now having a slightly inflamed area in back of throat and feeling of sandpaper and cotton feeling mostly when swallowing and sometimes a very foul taste was checked negative for strep twice. Was prescribed a gargle to numb throat but makes it worse

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your symptoms it seems that you might be suffering from fungal infection (oesophageal thrush) extending to throat as the symptoms of sandpaper and cotton feeling may be due to the fungal infection which may have extended from mouth to throat.

In this case there can be difficulty in swallowing along with altered taste or foul taste in mouth..
There will be white cottony cheese like patches in the throat along with similar patches on tongue and other parts of mouth like gums, cheeks etc..

I would suggest you to get evaluated for the fungal infection and get treated accordingly..

If it is fungal infection Oral antifungl medicines will be helpful..

Taking probiotics like yoghurt frequently in diet can help clearing the fungus.

Hope your query is solved..
