What Causes Weight Gain When Suffering With Hypothyroidism And PCOs?

I have hypothyroidism and pcos. I will go for several months of feeling good, taking my pills regularly and then become depressed, struggle with remembering to take my pills, difficulty waking up, and trouble focusing. I recently have been trying to get back into taking my pills regularly and following a 1700 calorie diet and work out regimen... I am morbidly obese, I weigh 295 pounds and am 5'9". In 3 months, I've gained four pounds. Any suggestions?

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hi there,

Obesity is very closely inter-related with PCOS. Hypothyroidism, by itself, does not cause obesity. When it is very severe, it causes weight gain (not obesity, because this gain is due to increase in fluid retention), but that is also not more than 5-10% of your body weight.

So this is exogenous obesity. You have to stick to lifestyle interventions. You should see an Endocrinologist and he can decide after examining you and getting relevant tests done, whether you need medicines for weight loss or not.

Hope I was able to help.
