What Causes Weight Gain In Thyroid And Heart Patients?

My weight is out of control since I had a heart attack of last year. I am taking generic Lipitor and a blood thinner. I also have Hypothroidism and I am really considering going off of my heart meds if they are causing the weight gain. Could my meds be causing my weight gain?

Hello , as you already diagnosed with hypothyroidism which is a very common cause for weight gain and lethargy. You didnt specify whether you are on any medications for thyroxine supplements. Lipitor is a med which is used to lower the cholesterol in your body. So it is actually helping you out decrease the cholesterol and fat in your body. As for blood thinner, it is given for your heart condition and at no cost you should discontinue it with your own wish till the doctor who started it for you asks you to stop it. So i would suggest you to continue lipitor and the blood thinner medications and to start for thyroxine supplement if you are not on it yet. Well controlled diet and moderate exercise for your age will show you good effects. Thank you
