What Causes Weight Gain And Joint Pain After Hysterectomy?

Hi My name is Tracey. 3 years ago aged 49 9 months, I underwent a radical hysterectomy as well as removal of ovaries and fallopian tubes. The huge tumour on one ovary was benign. I started I started immediate menopause and experienced many changes. Massive weight gain (15 kilos) Aching joints not to mention dry skin, hair, zero libido and so on. Hot flushes have reduced and manageable. Strong family history of breast cancer so no HRT. Thyroid has hard nodule. I would like to see an endocrinologist if I can convince my GP. Do you feel this would be a good idea? Thank you

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Your GP can screen you initially then send you to see the endocrinologist depending on the findings.
Blood tests such as thyroid function tests can be done and also an ultrasound of the thyroid to identify any significant changes.

Additional tests, such as looking at cortisol and related hormones, may be done to rule out other causes for the weight gain.

I hope this helps
