My husband has been confined to bed for nearly a week.started as flu symptoms shivering then hot etc.then diareah for 4days.gp said dehydrated.took him off blood pressure.tablets as bp 85/50.now 120/60 -and temp 38.4.he appears to have a chesty cough bringing up brownish mucus and his urine is a dark colour.sample of stool sent to hospital yesterday and diareah has stopped since gp advised 2 Imodium yesterday midday.main concern is he is so weak physically and cannot get up from bed unaided.is this usual.
He must undergo routine blood count, electrolytes, urinalysis with clinical examination of abdomen or ultrasound of abdomen to detect the underlying cause first.
He will require antibiotics(quinolones or cephalosporins or antiprotozoals etc.) with antiemetic, antispasmodics and antiinflammatories with prebiotics and probiotics.
There will be great need of fluid and electrolyte balance in body.
You must consult physician for immediate treatment
