What Causes Vision Disturbance With Flash Of Light On The Rim Of Eye?

Earlier I had a sudden vision disturbance in one eye where along the outer rim of my range of vision, I saw iridescent lights, like a halo, kind of like would happen befire fainting with no fainting ....it lasted about 20 minutes, but really scared,me. What could it be?

Two possibilities here--
A detached retina would be one.
The other would be a transient ischemic attack--a threatened stroke.

Either way you should consider this an emergency situation and you need to see a doctor about it right away
