Hi, I have been using baking soda on my vagina area to reduce moisture and absorb odor for a few weeks. I have since then experienced a yellowish discharge and a foul odor not the norm, is it possible this use has caused a bacteria infection? What would you recommend I do
Vagina contains Lactobacilli as normal inhabitants which are protective for vagina against any infection. These bacilli create acidic milieu interne inside the vagina which provides this protection.
When you are using baking soda for vaginal washing, you are disturbing vaginal pH and converting it to alkaline pH. This invites different types of infectios; the commonest being fungal infection, trichomonal infection and/or bacterial infection.
Yellowish discharge is most likely to be due to bacterial infection which can be treated by some antibiotics. The most effective for treating such infections is Doxycycline group.
Please report to your Gynaecologist for confirmation of the diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
Along with these medicines, please use Lactobacilli vaginal ovules for re-establishing the vaginal flora and pH. Also use lactobacilli perineal wash.
I hope this helps you.
