WITH MENOPAUSE THE ESTROGEN LEVEL DECREASES A LOT. THIS LEADS TO ATROPHY IN THE VVAGINAL AREA AND ITCHING AND BURNING. LOCAL ESTROGEN CREAM WILL HELP YOU BUT CONTRAINDICATIONS TO IT NEEDS TO BE RULED OUT FIRST.

OBGYN Dr. Nishikant Shrotri's  Response
Hallow Dear,

At this age, the vaginal lining becomes very thin. The vagina also becomes narrow. Hence, intercourse can cause vaginal irritation during intercourse resulting into irritation around the vagina.

Moreover, due to loss of normal vaginal bacterial flora of lactobacilli and thinning of vaginal mucous membrane, there are chances of fungal infection of vagina which also cause pain and irritation.

Please report to your Gynaecologist. If there is fungal infection, you will have to take antifungal vaginal pessaries. Along with use Lactycid to regain the lactobacilli in the vagina will help you. Even if you do not have fungal infection, Lactycid is advised and will give you lot of relief. You may use Oestrogen vaginal cream (only after Gynaecologists advice) for building up of vaginal lining.

If your intercourse is dry, it will cause pain and irritation. Try using lubricants. Oil based lubricants are harmful for woman's genital organs. Hence use only water based lubricants. Vaginal jellies are good for this purpose.

I hope this helps you.
