What Causes Vaginal Bleeding With Positive Pregnancy Test?

Had first IUI on April 22nd. Got period on my 23rd cycle day and it lasted two days (heavy). Nurse called and said my bloodwork shows that I am pregnant but wants me to come in for another blood test in 3 days to see if the numbers went down. She said I might have an ectopic pregnancy. Could the egg still have implanted in the uters and not in my tubes?

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Positive pregnancy test and bleeding is suggestive of:
1. Abortion
2. Ectopic pregnancy
3. Bleeding around the fetus( subchorionic haemorrhage).
The diagnosis can be confirmed by proper examination and ultrasound.
If the bloodlevels of beta hCG decrease or do not increase double fold in 48 hours, then it can be ectopic pregnancy.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
