What Causes Urge To Urinate And Painful Urination?

My husband is feeling that he has to urinate immediately after trying to and when he does it hurts. It just started and he s trying to sleep but is quickly having to get up and go . Should he go to the clinic tomorrow? And is there anything that he can do to alleviate the symptoms?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query. Your problem can be due to urinary infection. Urine routine examination will be helpful to rule out that. In such case antibiotic therapy will be needed. I usually advise antibiotics like norfloxacin empirically and send urine for culture and change antibiotic if necessary after culture report. You can also take potassium citrate to alkalize your urine which will help to decrease painful urination. Taking cranberry juice or barley water is helpful also.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
