What Causes Upset Stomach, Blood And Mucus In Stools?
Past week or so having some upset stomach, and during bowel movement there is quite a bit of bright red blood on the outside of the stool or even a blood droplet or two, with the toilet paper being mostly blood. There also seems to be a sort of loose whitish mucous surrounding some of my stools. Have also been a bit lethargic the past couple of days and sleeping more than usual. Don t have a personal doctor, so any ideas would be helpful.
Hi. Thanks for your query. The passage of blood and mucus in the stool with lethargy indicate an intestinal infection particularly of the large bowel. I would advise you the following: First of all, get the stool checked for 3 days. Check the blood and urine . Get started on a course of an antibiotic and metronidazole for 5 days along with probiotics and supportive medicines. Have full diet and avoid any foods and beverages from outside of home. IF you get absolutely alright, nothing more needs to be done. If the problem persists then you need a further clinical evaluation by a General Surgeon or a Gastroenterologist, colonoscopy and may even be CT scan of the abdomen to see for the causes and get treated as per the findings.
