What Causes Upper Abdominal Pain And Upper Back Pain?

I have pain in the upper abdomen between my breasts which I can also feel in my upper mid-back . It was pretty constant the past couple of days, but is less today. It is tender to the touch in that area. While I was visiting my cardiologist yesterday for a routine visit, he said he did not think this pain was heart related and suggested I see my family physician as it could be an issue with my gallbladder or pancreatitis, My family doctor is out of town so I am consulting you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

If the pain is in the center of the chest in the area of the sternum and associated with tenderness, it is possible that there may be costochondritis which is inflammation of the area between the ribs and the sternum.

It is treated with anti inflammatory pain medication.

If it is lower then it may be the stomach, pancreas, liver or gallbladder but this would need to be determined by physical examination by your doctor.

I hope this helps
