What Causes Unilateral Swelling In The Eyelid, Lip, Neck And Feet?
What kind of allergic reaction could cause the following: swelling of the right eyelid, right side of upper lip, right big toe and also the tongue and throat? This has happened sporadically about a half dozen times and there does not seem to be a common cause for any of these occasions.
This is angioedema and it is caused by allergy to food, stinging insects, latex, drugs and genetic defect in complement system of body. Advice 1. Go to hospital 2. Injection dexamethasone every 12 hours for 3 days then tablet dexamethasone 0.5 mg every 12 hours per oral for next 5 days 3. Injection hydroxyzine every 8 hours for first 3 days then tablet hydroxyzine 25 mg per oral every 8 hours for next 5 days 4. Albendazole 400 mg every 24 hours per oral for 3 days 5. Ranitidine 150 mg every 12 hours per oral for 7 days 6. Stop any drug if you are allergic to it 7. Self-identify any allergic substance 8. Investigations a. R/E of stool b. CBC c. ESR d. Anti – nuclear antibody e. Serum C4 level f. Quantitative and functional measurement of serum C1 esterase inhibitor g. Serum C1q level h. Allergy test Thanks
